WHAT TO EXPECT

I take a focused approach to therapy. Basically, that means that I want to clearly understand your goals for therapy and build a plan together in order to make progress toward that goal. Ultimately, my goal is that you will not see me after a while. For some folks that could be 8 sessions, for some, that could mean sessions over a year or so. However, I desire to be clear when we begin about your expectations and also about my background and ability to work with you toward those goals.

Therapy can be a scary thing to start. I wish that weren’t the case. I can tell you that I’m pretty easy to talk to! I get along with most folks, so hopefully you will not have to experience that awkward “What am I doing here?” feeling for too long. We can get through it. I also offer a 15 minute phone consultation to help get to know me a little bit before you have to make any type of appointment.

Our first few sessions will include questions and some structured guidance on my part as I get to know you. This is to ensure that you feel comfortable, that I do my job well, and that we can come to a place where I demonstrate that I understand where you want to go and how we are going to get there. Therapy should not be mysterious. We are in it together and questions are welcome to enhance the sense that you have say in the process as well.
